“A new short read in the genre”

Nyssa always has the wind around her, playing with her hair or caressing her cheek, and she has come to think of it as her friend to comfort her and protect her. Then, she meets Boreas. Who is he? And why is he here just when it seems she needs rescuing?

The idea that a woman can feel the wind and have an association with it while other people can’t is what drew me to read this book. I was fascinated to read what this author had thought up in her imagination and what new twist she’d bring to the genre.

I suppose it was entirely my fault that I came to this book with a lot of expectations, therefore, I felt a bit let down when I finished reading the entire story. I felt that the story moved too fast to its resolution, even if the two protagonists had “known” each other a long time. The story could have been expanded a little to develop the characters and the growing relationship between them. An enriched dialogue would have helped to round out the characters as well. The level of sexual tension could also be heightened throughout the characters’ interactions to give the readers a sense of the attraction between them.

Samantha is a witch; and one that knows herself very well. She is very intelligent, very well researched in Wicca, and has spent a lot of time getting closer to herself and learning what she believes. When a lost soul continues to come near her home, walking near a stream in deep thought, his despair pulls at her, night after night. Finally, she feels that she must help him and approaches him to offer him her deal.

David is an ad executive, who was once very good at his job. Lately, he cannot find his creative side and is exhausted, trying to keep up with his job. When the lovely Samantha approaches him, he cannot resist her. He has never met anyone so in tune with himself or herself. She knows who she is and what she believes in, without a doubt. She offers him a sex spell, which he cannot turn down. When the spell is over, will David be able to walk away and never experience Samantha again?

Kiki Howell wove a story of magic that drew me in on the first page. I was impressed with Samantha and how well she knows herself and her craft. David is like most of us; he has lost his way and does not know who he is or what he wants any longer. Kiki’s use of words and descriptions is indescribable and weaves a kind of magic around the reader. This is my first experience with Kiki Howell, but after reading The Healing Spell, she is now at the top of my to be read list!
