SEA LORD
(The Children of the Sea: Book 4)
by Virginia Kantra

Berkley Pub Group
May 5, 2009
ISBN #0425226360
EAN #9780425226360
Paperback
Synopsis:
One family. Three loves that will change their lives . . . and whose destiny could change the world.
For centuries, the children of the sea have co-existed in uneasy peace with their fellow elementals, the children of fire. Now that balance of power is tested as three siblings born of a human father and a selkie mother become embroiled in an ancient rivalry.
Follow their stories: Caleb, the soldier, who returns from the desert to fall in love with a woman from the sea ; Dylan, the loner, who must choose between the freedom of his mother’s kind and the bonds of mortal love; and Lucy, the dreamer, whose heart and fate are tangled with the sea king’s son .
Set off the coast of Maine, the Children of the Sea series was inspired by the Celtic legends of the selkie, immortal creatures of the sea living apart from humankind but able to shape-shift into seductive human form.
SEA LORD: Lucy’s story
He was born of the sea…
Selkie prince Conn ap Llyr denies his deeply sensual nature to rule over the immortal Children of the Sea. But when the Children of Fire threaten the Selkies Sanctuary, Conn must obey his haunting visions and seek a woman thousands of miles away…
She was born on land…
Schoolteacher Lucy Hunter knows nothing about her Selkie heritage or the prophecy that drives Conn to find her. She is content with her life on the quiet Maine island of World’s End. That is, until a proud, compelling stranger appears to challenge her assumptions and awaken her desires.
Their love will tear them between two worlds.
To combat Fire, Conn needs Lucy’s magic — even if this means stealing her away to Sanctuary. As the demon threat grows, so does their passion, overcoming Lucy’s fears and Conn’s guarded heart. But soon they face a devastating choice. Will their love be enough to save them? Or will their destinies tear them apart?
Leslie says: “Oh this was a marvelous coming of age story, and the best in a truly excellent paranormal romance series. This book had it all, passion, magic, conflict and a truly amazing heroine. Shy Lucy whom everyone had sheltered and protected rises to the occasion with courage and strength, I dare say surprising all including the reader! Of course there are other surprises in store as well, but I won’t spoil the fun by mentioning them. I truly hope that this Hunter siblings’ trilogy will not be the end of the Children of the Sea tales. Since the novella “Sea Crossing” in the anthology SHIFTER dealt with a previous human/selkie generation, I’m hoping to see the next generation of Hunters grow up and fall in love. Of course Caleb, Dylan, and Lucy must survive this adventure in order for that to occur. I highly suggest reading SEA LORD to discover whether or not they do.”

Synopsis:
Nalini Singh introduces readers to a world of beauty and bloodlust, where angels hold sway over vampires.
Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she’s the best—but she doesn’t know if she’s good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear—failure is not an option…even if the task is impossible.
Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.
The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break…
Mippy says: “This is the first book of Nalini Singh’s I’ve had the pleasure of reading and all I can say is, “Wow!” Just…WOW! This book is a high octane, action packed, roller coaster ride that never stops until the last page is turned. I found myself completely enthralled with Elena and Raphael’s story from page one and literally finished the book in 24 hours. With engaging characters and sexual tension between the characters that is off the charts, Angels’ Blood is completely original with a rock solid storyline, and strong, but more importantly, likable characters. I have no doubt that this book will more than satisfy even the most fastidious fans of paranormal romance.”

For Barbie Bradley, the answer might lie somewhere in the dark, creepy pathways of an old graveyard. Where she can finally rustle up something the airhead “doll” never had . . .
Deborah says: “I saw this four years ago in the American Titles contest and really rooted for it to win. It was just so much fun and really strikes the note that Thomas will be an author you hear a lot from in the coming year. I’ve got a feeling this could be the sleeper of the year. With that title, the quirky cover and Thomas’s original style, this is a winner.”

A WITCH’S BEAUTY

EAN #9780425225677
416 pages

Synopsis:
Mina is Dark Spawn, half-mermaid, half Dark One. A sea witch who lives in the shadows, she is shunned by the merpeople. She seeks no friendships, however, no lasting relationships. Every day is about surviving, fighting the call of the dark blood within her, which demands she submit her ever-increasing powers to their cause. But Mina submits to no one. Until she meets David.
At thirty, David is one of the youngest angels in the Dark Legion, the angelic host dedicated to eliminating Dark Ones. Unlike many of his fellow angels who feel Mina’s death is inevitable, he believes her power can be used for good. When he entreats his commander to be assigned as her guardian against the Dark Ones, he also finds himself cast in the reluctant role of her executioner, if she turns to their cause.
The only problem is he is falling in love with the prickly sea witch. Which means he might risk the universe itself to turn her away from the darkness, and into his arms.
Sonya says: “A WITCH’S BEAUTY is the second installment of Joey W. Hill’s mermaid series, and Hill skillfully maintains the sensuous mood of the first book while tackling darker themes this time around. David and Mina bear emotional/physical scars issued by the hands of abusive adults and their experiences have affected them profoundly. Mina’s internal conflict comes across in horrific detail as David’s guilt and pain is quietly expressed with heartbreaking intensity. Hill pulls no punches in this tale of innocence stolen, redemption, and the healing power of love. As a result, A WITCH’S BEAUTY engages emotions and satisfies with multi-dimensional characters and a poignant love story. Mina and David endure more than anyone should ever have to (real or imagined) and this reader can’t think of another couple more deserving of their happy ending.”
