Katie says: “Wow. The Psy-Changeling world is growing. I am intrigued because the line between good and bad is undefined, or becoming more difficult to draw. What sets this series apart from many others is that there is a large, arching story bridging each new book with its predecessor. Therefore, at the beginning of this series the major plot had to have been thought out to be able to carry the series so well into its sixth installment. This is a very well written series.”

Bantam Spectra
February 24, 2009
ISBN #0553592181
EAN #9780553592184

Synopsis:
It’s an impossible mission on a derelict ship called HOPE’S FOLLY. A man who feels he can’t love. A woman who believes she’s unlovable. And an enemy who will stop at nothing to crush them both.

Admiral Philip Guthrie is in an unprecedented position: on the wrong end of the law, leading a rag-tag band of rebels against the oppressive Imperial forces. Or would be, if he can reach his command ship—the intriguingly named Hope’s Folly—alive. Not much can rattle Philip’s legendary cool—but the woman who helps him foil an assassination attempt on Kirro Station will. She’s the daughter of his best friend and first commander—a man who died while under Philip’s command, and whose death is on Philip’s conscience. Rya Bennton has been in love with Philip Guthrie since she was a girl. But can her childhood fantasies survive an encounter with the hardened man, and newly-minted rebel leader, who it seems has just become her new commanding officer? And will she still be willing follow him through the jaw of hell once she learns the truth about her father’s death?

Berkley Pub Group
February 3, 2009
ISBN #0425225526
EAN #9780425225523
352 pages
Paperback

Synopsis:
Welcome to Eileen Wilks’s world of the lupi, of “strange magic [and] fantastic realms,”* where some sins are so dark and unlikely, no one thought to forbid them…

FBI agent Lily Yu is in North Carolina with her lover and mate Rule Turner, lu nuncio of the Nokolai werewolf clan, where he is to take custody of his son from the boy’s grandmother. It’s a purely personal trip until Rule, in wolf form, finds three bodies in a shallow grave. They carry the stench of death magic, which makes the murders a federal crime. Lily takes charge of the investigation, and soon realizes that nothing adds up—not the motives, not even the accused killer, who’s behind bars when death strikes again.

But murder, however bizarre, is an everyday affair for Lily, who was a homicide cop before being recruited into the FBI’s Magical Crimes Division. A more personal shock arrives in the person of Rule’s son’s mother. Why is she challenging Rule’s long standing plan to bring his son to live among the Nokolai?

But family must take a back seat when the violence escalates, and there’s no rhyme or reason for the killer’s next strike—a killer who may not even be of this world…

SEA LORD
(The Children of the Sea: Book 4)
by Virginia Kantra
sealord
Berkley Pub Group
May 5, 2009
ISBN #0425226360
EAN #9780425226360
Paperback

Synopsis:

One family. Three loves that will change their lives . . . and whose destiny could change the world.

For centuries, the children of the sea have co-existed in uneasy peace with their fellow elementals, the children of fire. Now that balance of power is tested as three siblings born of a human father and a selkie mother become embroiled in an ancient rivalry.
Follow their stories: Caleb, the soldier, who returns from the desert to fall in love with a woman from the sea ; Dylan, the loner, who must choose between the freedom of his mother’s kind and the bonds of mortal love; and Lucy, the dreamer, whose heart and fate are tangled with the sea king’s son .

Set off the coast of Maine, the Children of the Sea series was inspired by the Celtic legends of the selkie, immortal creatures of the sea living apart from humankind but able to shape-shift into seductive human form.
SEA LORD: Lucy’s story
He was born of the sea…

Selkie prince Conn ap Llyr denies his deeply sensual nature to rule over the immortal Children of the Sea. But when the Children of Fire threaten the Selkies Sanctuary, Conn must obey his haunting visions and seek a woman thousands of miles away…

She was born on land…

Schoolteacher Lucy Hunter knows nothing about her Selkie heritage or the prophecy that drives Conn to find her. She is content with her life on the quiet Maine island of World’s End. That is, until a proud, compelling stranger appears to challenge her assumptions and awaken her desires.

Their love will tear them between two worlds.

To combat Fire, Conn needs Lucy’s magic — even if this means stealing her away to Sanctuary. As the demon threat grows, so does their passion, overcoming Lucy’s fears and Conn’s guarded heart. But soon they face a devastating choice. Will their love be enough to save them? Or will their destinies tear them apart?

Leslie says:Oh this was a marvelous coming of age story, and the best in a truly excellent paranormal romance series. This book had it all, passion, magic, conflict and a truly amazing heroine. Shy Lucy whom everyone had sheltered and protected rises to the occasion with courage and strength, I dare say surprising all including the reader! Of course there are other surprises in store as well, but I won’t spoil the fun by mentioning them. I truly hope that this Hunter siblings’ trilogy will not be the end of the Children of the Sea tales. Since the novella “Sea Crossing” in the anthology SHIFTER dealt with a previous human/selkie generation, I’m hoping to see the next generation of Hunters grow up and fall in love. Of course Caleb, Dylan, and Lucy must survive this adventure in order for that to occur. I highly suggest reading SEA LORD to discover whether or not they do.”

Synopsis:

Nalini Singh introduces readers to a world of beauty and bloodlust, where angels hold sway over vampires.

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she’s the best—but she doesn’t know if she’s good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear—failure is not an option…even if the task is impossible.

Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break…

Mippy says: “This is the first book of Nalini Singh’s I’ve had the pleasure of reading and all I can say is, “Wow!” Just…WOW! This book is a high octane, action packed, roller coaster ride that never stops until the last page is turned. I found myself completely enthralled with Elena and Raphael’s story from page one and literally finished the book in 24 hours. With engaging characters and sexual tension between the characters that is off the charts, Angels’ Blood is completely original with a rock solid storyline, and strong, but more importantly, likable characters. I have no doubt that this book will more than satisfy even the most fastidious fans of paranormal romance.”

Synopsis:

Mina is Dark Spawn, half-mermaid, half Dark One. A sea witch who lives in the shadows, she is shunned by the merpeople. She seeks no friendships, however, no lasting relationships. Every day is about surviving, fighting the call of the dark blood within her, which demands she submit her ever-increasing powers to their cause. But Mina submits to no one. Until she meets David.

At thirty, David is one of the youngest angels in the Dark Legion, the angelic host dedicated to eliminating Dark Ones. Unlike many of his fellow angels who feel Mina’s death is inevitable, he believes her power can be used for good. When he entreats his commander to be assigned as her guardian against the Dark Ones, he also finds himself cast in the reluctant role of her executioner, if she turns to their cause.

The only problem is he is falling in love with the prickly sea witch. Which means he might risk the universe itself to turn her away from the darkness, and into his arms.

Sonya says: “A WITCH’S BEAUTY is the second installment of Joey W. Hill’s mermaid series, and Hill skillfully maintains the sensuous mood of the first book while tackling darker themes this time around. David and Mina bear emotional/physical scars issued by the hands of abusive adults and their experiences have affected them profoundly. Mina’s internal conflict comes across in horrific detail as David’s guilt and pain is quietly expressed with heartbreaking intensity. Hill pulls no punches in this tale of innocence stolen, redemption, and the healing power of love. As a result, A WITCH’S BEAUTY engages emotions and satisfies with multi-dimensional characters and a poignant love story. Mina and David endure more than anyone should ever have to (real or imagined) and this reader can’t think of another couple more deserving of their happy ending.”

ISBN #0373773617

Paperback

Synopsis:
She’s the most wanted woman in the galaxy.

The war is finally over. But Wren’s life is in tatters. The only living offspring of the notorious Drakken Warlord, her genes could very well start a new dynasty of terror. And the Coalition can’t have that.

She alone holds the key to finding a legendary treasure. Having seen enough bloodshed, shy, petite Wren vows to destroy it before anyone, Drakken, Coalition or Earth, can get their hands on it - but she’ll need help.

The Drakken’s ruthless evil turned Aral toward the Coalition years ago. War is all he knows, until he finds passion and love in the most unlikely of women - the Warlord’s Daughter. But will trusting each other with their secrets risk not only their hearts, but their lives?

Leslie says: “Of all Susan Grant’s novels, this was my favorite of all. It had everything I love in a story - romance, intrigue, action, adventure and of course a happy ending. THE WARLORD’S DAUGHTER took two lost and lonely children, one neglected the other abused, and gave them strength and character to put an entire universe to rights or die trying. Both have the right stuff to do what needs to be done on their own but together they are all but invincible. There is not an abundance of steamy love scenes but IMHO they are not necessary as the connection Ms. Grant establishes between the pair is undeniably soul deep. For a science fiction thrill ride that touches the heart, I highly recommend this tale.”

Synopsis:
HERE’S HOPING CATS DO HAVE NINE LIVES
I’m on trial for my life. Falsely accused of infecting my human ex-boyfriend–and killing him to cover up the crime. Infecting a human is one of three capital offenses recognized by the Pride–along with murder and disclosure of our existence to a human.

I’m two for three. A goner.

Now we’ve discovered a rogue stray terrorizing the mountainside, hunting a wild teenage tabbycat. It’s up to us to find and stop him before a human discovers us. With my lover Marc’s help, I think I can protect the vulnerable girl from both the ambitious rogue and the scheming of the territorial council.

If I survive my own trial…

Mippy says: “When I started reading Pride, I found myself literally glued to the seat of my chair refusing to put the book down until I read the last page. The book is packed with plenty of action, sass, and some bittersweet and emotional love scenes between Faythe and Marc — her long time on-again, off-again beau. The cliffhangers in these books always kill me, but they never fail leaving me wanting more! Lucky for us, we don’t have long to wait for our next “fix” because the next Shifter book Prey is set to release July 1, 2009. Ms. Vincent is definitely a rising star in the urban fantasy genre and I highly recommend her books to fans of the genre.”

Synopsis:

**2008 PEARL WINNER - BEST FUTURISTIC ROMANCE**

Everything is different underground. Just ask the residents of Harmony, a futuristic world where alien catacombs can lead you astray - and where psychic senses spark out-of-this-world passion…

Reporter Sierra McIntyre’s stories on Crystal City’s ghost hunters - and their mysterious guild - have earned her tabloid a bit of respect. And they’ve allowed her to clothe her dust bunny companion Elvis in rock-and-roll style. It helps that she has mega-rez intuition to fall back on…

Especially when she interviews Ghost Hunter Guild Boss John Fontana about the disappearances of retired, homeless hunters. She doesn’t want to trust the physically and psychically powerful man, but her senses - and Elvis - give her the green light. To uncover the conspiracy within his own organization, Fontana proposes…marriage. And though it’s purely a business arrangement, there is nothing pure about the attraction that sizzles between them…

Deborah says: “In the Ghost Hunter series, book #5, she is back and as good as ever. She really rocks! Yes, JAK has her formula, but it’s one that works and it’s like coming home to an old friend. I thought Orchid, Amaryllis and Zinnia were some of her top works, and the Harmony series matches that.”

ISBN #0758225814
EAN #9780758225818

Synopsis:
DOMINIC, THE LORDS OF SATYR is set in Tuscany and ElseWorld, and includes 2 related stories:
* A full-satyr warrior named Dominic serves as an important weapon in ElseWorld’s war. Things heat up right from page one, when he is sent through the interworld gate to find Emma (Jane’s sister in NICHOLAS) during Moonful for reasons he must keep secret.
* The 2nd story is closely related to the first and involves Vincent (Jane and Nicholas’s firstborn son), who’s brokering a peace treaty in ElseWorld when he becomes involved with a lovely, dangerous female from that world. His brothers and friend Landon are major characters.
They are Satyrs, men endowed with legendary carnal knowledge who demand total and complete control with their sexual prowess…

A Night Of Bliss
Emma anxiously awaits her husband’s return home to Tuscany on Calling night. She hopes that the night-long copulation will draw them closer together for she questions whether they truly love one another. But when Carlo arrives, injured in battle and unable to perform, she learns she must mate instead with Dominic, a lusty, royal Satyr. It is a night of hedonistic passion that leaves her wanting much, much more…

A Moment Of Rapture
Like other Satyr lords, Vincent is driven to mate from dusk to dawn every Calling night. But as a bachelor, Vincent must conjure a female from the mist who will satisfy his sexual needs. While his brothers summon a different partner with each full moon, Vincent calls upon the same one time after time. He wants her to experience the same erotic pleasure he feels and one night she does the magic is real…

Sonya says: “Elizabeth Amber has yet again brought the Satyr world to life with her sensual prose and wonderful imagination. In DOMINIC, suspense and sexual tension are dialed up to a feverish pitch as propriety forces Emma to deny her deepest desires and Dominic glimpses life beyond the interworld gate. In a slight departure from the previous stories, VINCENT is an unconventional love story that is surprisingly humorous in spite of an awful betrayal. Amber writes such unique tales with some of the most despicable villains this reader has ever encountered, thus making the “Happily Ever After” that much more satisfying. This fourth installment of the Lords of Satyr series is no exception and readers who enjoyed the first 3 books will not be disappointed.”

Synopsis:
A passion to die for…

The Compact of Sorcerers, a brotherhood sworn to protect the wall between the human and demon realms, is thrust into battle with an unseen evil that threatens to destroy them all…

Forensic anthropologist Vivien Cairn fears she’s losing her mind. Her libido has kicked into overdrive, and she’s blacking out, leaving hours of her life unaccounted for and no memory of where she’s been or
what she’s done. But when a sexy stranger rescues her from a demon attack, Vivien realizes there’s more than just her sanity at stake.

A seductive killer is luring victims, and Sorcerer Dain Hawkins finds himself walking a dangerous line between ancient duty and sizzling desire when the brotherhood- -and Vivien herself–begins to suspect
that her mysterious symptoms may connect her to the crimes. Can Dain save Vivien from the evil that threatens to claim her? Or will they both succumb to…

DEMON’S HUNGER

Leslie says: “I am a big fan of Eve Kenin’s award winning SHOMI futuristic romances so when the publisher sent me the latest Eve Silver dark fantasy paranormal romance (same author, different name) my reaction was YES!!!!!! I was not disappointed. This is the second book in the Compact of Sorcerers series and there were references to the earlier story but not so much that the book couldn’t stand on its own. I will definitely be picking up the first book, DEMON’S KISS, right away though.

I was mesmerized by this tale. Not for one moment did I wonder if Vivian’s heart was less than pure, but the unfolding of the mystery surrounding the succubus crimes was superbly handled. The romance was hot! Dain is a hero to die for. Sexy and loyal, he relies on his instincts when all evidence points to the contrary. And because the diabolical demon plot has not yet been resolved, one simply cannot wait for the next installment to find out what happens next. Oh yeah, there are several sexy sorcerers still unattached too. Yum. Eve Silver is a truly versatile writer and I can’t wait to see what she tries next.”

Synopsis: Three ‘tween sneaker sleuths face the unsolved mystery of Jefferson Davis’lost gold treasure with a little bit of help from a ghostly black fist and divining rods.
Twelve-year-old Anna Mae Botts, her eight-year-old brother Malcolm, and Anna Mae’s best friend Raul Garcia, face a ghostly black fist on their first day of school. It blocks their entrance into school, while dropping paper clues about Jefferson Davis’ lost Civil War gold. Things get more complicated when a school fire occurs.

Mysterious events soon overtake Raul, Malcolm, and Anna Mae at school as well as at home. Rats, alphabet noodle clues, floating chalk, and phantom false-bottom wagons lead the tweens to travel the same route by car that was taken by Jefferson Davis and his gold-laden wagon train.
With divining rods given to her by her granma, computer printouts, and Spirit Journey memories that take her back to a Civil War past, Anna Mae, Raul, and Malcolm find Jefferson Davis’ lost gold treasure, part of it buried on Chennault Plantation and more of it in a vacant lot on the outskirts of Warthen, Georgia.

Deborah says: “It’s a delightful YA book that give kids and teens a mix of history, paranormal and mystery, with a quirky cast of multi-racial characters, filling a void sadly missing in current YA material. This strikes a chord of The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew from my childhood, but tailored for today’s YA readers. A promising start for the series.”

Synopsis:

When darkenss falls

As the mercenary daughter of Gair, the black mage of Ceangail, Morgan is the only one who can stop the terrible sorcery her father unleashed. To do so, she must race against time and find the spell that will allow her to close the well of evil he opened. But that quest will lead her to places she never dreamed existed and into a darkness she would give anything to avoid..

The magic rises

The fate of the Kingdom of Neroche is intertwined with the closing of Gair’s well. Miach the archmage of Neroche , is determined to hep Morgain find what she needs, not only because of the safety of the Nine Kingdoms hands in the balance but also because he will do anythin gto protect her. Together they must search out the mysteries of Ceangail, and the dangers of Morgan’s own bloodlines.
Now to rescue the kingdom for total ruin, Morgan and Miach have only each other to trust heart and soul….

Leslie says: What will become of this pair of unlikely lovers? Join them on the conclusion of their journey which began with STAR OF THE MORNING and continued with THE MAGE’S DAUGHTER. Follow them as they soar the skies, steal into dangerous places to uncover spells, and fight for their lives, their kingdoms and their love. Fate has a plethora of surprises in store for the tragically orphaned duo – Morgan, a woman whose only desire was to wield a sword who instead finds herself a princess with a heritage of frightening magic and Miach, a prince whose heritage is magic but whose fondest wish was to be a simple farmer. Victory will force new responsibilities on the pair that they’d neither expected nor welcomed. Is their love strong enough to face the challenge?

I do hope Ms. Kurland will continue to offer us fantasy fare along with her incredibly popular romance novels. She has a knack for this genre that will have the reader longing to know the fate of numerous secondary characters as well as the rest of the Nine Kingdoms long after PRINCESS OF THE SWORD has been put to bed. Cathar is intriguing, Rigaud needs a good thumping and I imagine a child born to Morgan and Miach would be a right handful, no? Ah well, until then I highly recommend this incredibly magical and action packed fantasy series!

Synopsis: After living on the streets of New York City for over a decade, Logan Ellis admits her perceptions might be a little skewed. But twisted or not, there’s a satisfying irony in watching a well dressed vampire stand in the middle of a ghetto alley, windblown trash scraping small circles near his feet. What she finds even more intriguing, is waiting for him to decide whether or not he’s going to kill her.

Kerestyan Nelek hasn’t quite made up his mind. As the Lord of New York, he can’t allow a homeless drug addict, whose memories are packed with knowledge of vampiric existence, to run free in his city. It’s not the first time he’s been in this situation with a human, it’s just the first time in thousands of years he’s come face to face with one who doesn’t seem to care. And that’s what makes the decision so damn difficult.

What horrors would you have to witness before you went numb? How many years would it take for you to feel that way? What would it take to make you care again?

Logan’s answers are simple: the worst humanity has to offer, almost thirtyand something she never expected.

Deborah says: “Eternal Seduction is a dark novel with strong characters. A true storyteller, Turner keeps a fast pace, seasoned well with wit, and offers you an electrifying pair in Nelek and Logan. A wonderful debut novel I highly recommend.”
